About Mumbadevi Temple
Mumbadevi is the patron deity of Mumbai's original Koli fisherfolk community. The city's modern name 'Mumbai' is derived directly from 'Mumba' and 'Aai' (mother).
First erected in 1675 near Bori Bunder and relocated to Bhuleshwar in 1737, the shrine features an orange-faced black stone idol adorned with silver crown and nose ring.
